Grayson Perry will be taking viewers across the USA tonight on a customised Harley-Davidson to explore some of the country’s vibrant culture. Along his way, Perry meets a plethora of people from all walks of life from the Deep South to Brooklyn. The first episode of the three-part series, takes viewers from Atlanta, Georgia to Washington, DC.

The USA is currently out of bounds due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But if Perry’s American road trip has inspired a bucket list adventure across the vast country, then look no further.

Express.co.uk has compiled a location guide to Grayson Perry’s Big American Road Trip.

Where is Grayson Perry’s Big American Road Trip filmed?

The huge American road trip took Perry across various states and towns within the USA.

Some of the destinations mentioned were Atlanta, Georgia, Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, Washington, DC, Wisconsin and Brooklyn, New York according to The Times.

Perry’s aim was to speak to a wide variety of individuals across the whole of the USA.

However, this incredible journey is not Perry’s first, he described to The Times.

He road-tripped across America before in 1991 with his wife on a motorcycle from New York to Savannah, Atlanta, New Orleans, Texas, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, LA, San Francisco, Yosemite and Yellowstone.

Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta is the capital of the US state of Georgia and is known for its rich history and southern charm.

The city played an important part in the Civil War and the 1960s Civil Rights Movement.

While it may not be the USA’s most stunning city, it more than makes up for it with plenty of popular attractions.

The World of Coca-Cola, the Fernbank Museum, the Georgia Aquarium, CNN studio tours and The Void are all worth visiting.

If you prefer being outdoors though, the Centennial Olympic Park which is perfect for a stroll.

Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts

Martha’s Vineyard is an island in the Atlantic just south of Cape Cod that is famous for its stunning scenery and affluent visitors.

Martha’s Vineyard around 20 miles wide and 10 miles long and is divided into two sides; the “up-island” in the west, and the “down-island” in the east.

It’s important to be aware that in Martha’s Vineyard, there are some towns that do not allow the sale of alcohol – so plan your trip carefully.

One of Martha’s Vineyard’s most stunning attractions is Chappaquiddick Island which is a small peninsula and sometimes island that can only be accessed via ferry.

Another must-visit is Menemsha which is a tiny fishing village which was the filming location for the harbour in the famous Stephen Spielberg epic, Jaws.

Washington, DC

The US capital is located near both Maryland and Virginia and is home to the White House, the Capital and Supreme Court.

Known for its rich presidential history, it’s definitely worth visiting the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument and the Smithsonian Institution when you’re visiting.

Another lesser-known must-see is Old Town in Alexandria where you can stroll the streets filled with old taverns, small boutique shops and colonial town houses.

If you fancy exploring on foot then try the National Mall walk around the Capital to the Lincoln Memorial.

Wisconsin

Wisconsin is a state in the mid-western USA that is known for having two Great Lakes – Michigan and Superior.

The state’s capital is Madison but it’s also home to the city of Milwaukee which is known for its museum.

Devil’s Kate State Park is located in the Baraboo Range in eastern Sauk County, just south of Baraboo, Wisconsin.

The park is known for its 360-foot lake and 500-foot-high quartzite bluffs – perfect for any walking enthusiasts.

Brooklyn, New York

Brooklyn is a borough of New York City, and is arguably its most vibrant.

The borough is known for being home to the amusement park Coney Island, Brooklyn Botanic, Prospect Park and Brooklyn Bridge.

The vast borough is also home to some of New York’s best pizza and restaurants.

Look out for Brooklyn’s well-known brownstone buildings which line the borough’s streets.
