United Airlines will be the first U.S. carrier to utilize Panasonic Avionics’ Astrova inflight entertainment system.
The system will be installed on seatback screens of select new United Boeing 787 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft beginning in 2025.
The Astrova technology will have a sharper image than other seatback screenss, Panasonic Avionics said, and will deliver cinema-grade colors.

The company also said that its patented removable peripheral bar solution will enable United to upgrade the system easily without pricey hardware changes.
“This unlocks the ability for United to quickly adopt the technology and capabilities passengers expect and use in their daily lives,” Panasonic Avionics said. “Astrova also offers significant weight savings compared to other seat-end architectures, which will help United to reduce fuel burn.”
