Though staycations may be on hold for now amid the current lockdown, as it is lifted domestic holidays are likely to become popular once again. Though the winter months may be a little too chilly to pitch a tent in the great outdoors, many holidaymakers might already be planning ahead to next year.

In fact, if the summer months of 2020 are anything to go by, campsites and caravan parks may already be reaching capacity for bookings in the warmer months.

For Britons considering what may be their first-ever camping adventure, it seems there is one simple item that campers often forget.

However, doing so could be detrimental to your experience, and ruin any hope of a good night’s sleep.

Campers have weighed in on a Reddit forum dedicated to camping top tips, and the importance of once wardrobe favourite came up time and time again.

“For cold weather, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS put on clean, dry socks when you go to sleep,” wrote one camping enthusiast.

“Whether you realise it or not, at the end of the day, your socks are sweaty.

“If you sleep in those socks, your feet will FREEZE.

“Just put on a clean pair when you go to bed.”

They added: “Packing extra socks and underwear is always a good idea.”

Even in the toasty summer months, once the sun sets temperatures are likely to drop, and the extra layers will be a welcome relief.

A second camper added that “good socks” were essential.

Others took bedtime warmth a step further.

One holidaymaker said: “If there is any chance it will be cold at night, bring a small hat and gloves – doesn’t take up much space and if you need them you will be happy to have them.”

While the concept of sleeping under the stars may not be for everyone, 2020 became a huge year for people branching out and swapping their foreign escape for a UK staycation.

Many holiday parks in the UK found themselves extending their season as a result of a sudden surge in bookings.

And the good news is, there really is something for everyone.

If pitching a tent isn’t quite up your street there is always the more glamorous alternative of “glamping”.

Recent research but Plankbridge, who specialise in building some glamping accommodation, revealed which parts of the UK are home to the most in-demand glamping hotspots.

Based on data from Trip advisor, as well as Google Autocomplete, they found that the most sought after hotspot for luxury camping was Wales.

This was followed by the Lake District and Cornwall.

Yorkshire and Norfolk also made the top five destinations.
