The Greek Minister of Tourism announced that hotels and other accommodation were over 60 percent full in September. Popular British tourist destinations include the islands of Santorini, Mykonos and Crete.
Jet2 has recently announced it plans to start flights to Greece earlier than normal in 2022, with flights launching in April.
Temperatures in the Greek islands in April are typically around 20 degrees but can go higher. Greece’s Minister of Tourism said: “The British aspire to bring the tourist season earlier.
“However, most tourist accommodation and especially the high-level ones in all our islands and in the tourist destinations are crowded, and there will be this in October and in Crete and in November.”
There’s plenty of time for British tourists to catch some late winter sun in Greece with the average temperature in October being 22 degrees.
Greece has said it plans to launch a tourism campaign to encourage travellers to visit in the winter months.
Tourists have shared how happy they are to be heading back to Greece in social media posts.
Instagrammer, David Chapman, shared an airport shot with the caption: “Off to Santorini for a much needed break.”
DottyTravels posted a photo in Crete and said: “Stunning sunsets, long distance friendship reunions, boat trips, eating our body weight in pitta gyros.”
Instagrammer Vera said: “It’s been two years since my last sun vacation so hope to relax and top up on vitamin D to get ready for our rainy British weather.”
British tourists with holidays booked in Santorini can expect beautiful white houses, azure seas and gorgeous beaches.
History buffs can also check many of the island’s ancient sites and caves including the Akrotiri Archaeological Site.
The ancient city was covered by volcanic ash in an eruption in late 17th century BC making it extremely well preserved for visitors.
Travellers to Mykonos can take a stroll around the cobblestone streets of the main town or relax on the island’s paradise-like beaches.
Tourists holidaying on the large Greek island of Rhodes can enjoy the family-friendly resort of Faliraki.
Rhodes Town has well preserved medieval architecture for tourists who fancy a break from the beach.
City break fans could opt for a trip to the capital city, Athens, which offers many cultural attractions and exclusive boutique hotels.
Foodies can enjoy the amazing array of seafood dishes available in Greece as well as tourist favourite, the gyro.
Greece struggled during the pandemic as tourists were unable to visit due to the harsh travel restrictions.
It suffered a 72 percent drop in visitors from 2019 to 2020 and led many attempts to revive tourism in Europe.
British tourists visiting Greece will no longer need to take a pre-departure test before arrival in the UK after October 4.
The UK Foreign Office states that Greece will accept the NHS Covid certificate as proof of vaccination and everyone must complete a passenger locator form.
