Many Britons have started planning their summer holiday after the international travel ban was lifted last week. There are just a few countries on the “green list” where travellers can go without quarantine needed in return, but more are expected to be added in the next weeks.

However, the testing cost might be a problem for many families that weren’t expecting that extra bill.

Every passenger is required to take at least two tests when flying abroad, although it depends on the destination.

At the moment, this applies to everyone, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or not.

Covid tests are usually very pricey, but fortunately, some airlines have started offering discounted tests for their passengers.

What tests passengers need to take?

Green list destinations

A pre-departure Covid test may be required to enter the country

A pre-departure Covid test before returning to the UK and a PCR Covid test on day two after returning to the UK

Amber list destinations

A pre-departure Covid test may be required to enter the country

A pre-departure Covid test before returning to the UK and a PCR Covid test day two and day eight after returning to the UK

But what are the cheapest tests available?

TUI

If you are flying with TUI, the company is offering a £20 testing kit for passengers going on their package holidays. However, this doesn’t include a fit to fly test which is required before leaving the country in most cases. TUI offers a package that includes all the tests required for £60. Travellers can book these through TUI’s website.

British Airways

BA launched this week pre-departure tests for only £40. The airline is also offering numerous discounts for customers. Codes can be found on the website and are available for home tests, private testing centres and airport test centres in Heathrow and London City.

EasyJet

EasyJet is offering half-price at-home tests. These costs £60 when using the discount code easyJet201. However, this includes one test only.

Ryanair

Ryanair passengers can buy discounted PCR Covid testing kits costing just £60.

Jet2

Jet2 is offering tests which start at £75. To access the test, passengers need to have a flight booked with the airline. More information can be found on Jet2’s website.

For those travellers who want to avoid the unpleasant swab procedure, the Government has now approved a Covid-19 saliva-based test for arrivals in the UK.

Passengers can book it through the provider’s website Halo, and has a cost of £89.
