Rishi Sunak’s Autumn Budget has been laid out. The Chancellor announced £2 million for a new Beatles Museum on the waterfront of Liverpool during his speech today.
Liverpool is the Beatles’ city.
Tourists from all over the world flock to Liverpool to see the city that birthed one of the biggest bands in history.
From the Cavern Club, Cavern Pub and Cavern Restaurant to a Beatles statue at Pier Head, Beatlemania is alive and well in their hometown.
The Fab Four are a major attraction in Liverpool, with bus tours, walking tours and even one tour in the replica of John Lennon’s Rolls Royce Phantom.

It goes without saying the city already has a Beatles Museum on its waterfront.
The Beatles Story is an award-winning attraction.
It’s also “the world’s largest permanent exhibition purely devoted to telling the story of the lives and times of The Beatles”, as explained on its website.
On Tripadvisor, Bob said: “This is a must do in Liverpool.”
Kate Maxwell agreed and said: “If you are unfortunate to only have limited time in Liverpool spend it wisely – spend it here.
“No need for explanations- it’s The Beatles… full stop!”
So it came as a surprise for Liverpool, and the Beatles, to be getting a mention in Rishi Sunak’s Budget.
In the middle of education pledges and business rates announcement, a new Beatles museum on the waterfront of Liverpool was casually mentioned.
The Chancellor said the project was championed by Liverpool-born culture secretary Nadine Dorries.
In the Budget Report, the new Liverpool attraction was also mentioned.
“The government will also provide up to £2 million for Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to develop a business case for a new waterfront attraction celebrating the work and legacy of the Beatles, and consider future funding for this project subject to the business case.”
What the new “waterfront attraction” will be is still unclear.
Whether this will be an entirely new Beatles museum remains to be seen.
In Liverpool, the reaction was positive.
Andrew Ruffler, chief executive of Professional Liverpool told Liverpool Business News: “Liverpool has done well to secure funding for new cultural projects, which will certainly help.”
