‘Wonderful’ Spanish beach destination is one of this year’s top winter holidays

While there are some incredible destinations with enchanting festive Christmas markets in Europe, for some Britons, you just can’t beat a spot of winter sun.

According to data from booking platform Airbnb, Costa Teguise, a pretty seaside resort on Lanzarote’s east coast, is one of this year’s top trending destinations.

The Spanish resort is packed with sandy beaches and it’s also home to Lanzarote’s popular Aquarium.

The Canary Islands are one of Europe’s top winter destinations due to their location near the Equator which almost guarantees warm weather during the colder months.

Playa Del Jablillo, is Costa Teguise’s best-rated attraction on Tripadvisor and one of its most popular beaches.

‘Amber W’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Such a wonderful place. The water is so clear. We saw all sorts of wildlife. We arrived quite early and there weren’t too many people.”

‘Amberf04’ said: “The cove was absolutely beautiful and the sea was crystal clear so you could see the little fish swimming around your ankles. The sea was initially very chilly but once I was used to it, swimming in the sea was just perfect!”

Away from the beach, the Pueblo Marinero neighbourhood is one of the resort’s best areas for a holiday stroll.

‘Stuart M’ said: “This is the main square with bars and restaurants. Always a good place for people watching and a drink.”

While many tourists visit the Canary Islands to spend time at the beach, the islands’ volcanic landscapes are a must-see.

Montana Corona is an extinct volcano that tourists can hike to the top of. One visitor described it as a “fairly easy hike” on Tripadvisor but tourists should wear good footwear.

Children will love Lanzarote Aquarium which is home to a huge range of marine life from local fish to exotic species.
