The Do Not Disturb sign, (or the flip side, Please Make Up My Room) is often used by guests when they want some privacy – or would like their room cleaned.<\/p>\n
While you may think it\u2019s helpful to alert the staff as to the state of your room, it could project the entirely wrong message. Those who use it often during a stay could be drawing attention to themselves in a major way.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Please Make Up My Room sign, in particular, is a red flag to would-be thieves. It shows that your room is unoccupied and if they are fast enough, they could easily enter your room undetected.<\/p>\n
A manager from\u00a0ADT\u00a0security has advised: \u201cWhile you may think it is helpful to leave a service sign on your hotel room door, leaving a \u2018please\u00a0clean\u2019 note can notify potential thieves that your\u00a0room\u00a0is empty.<\/p>\n
“It is recommended that you notify\u00a0hotel\u00a0reception staff that you would like your\u00a0room\u00a0cleaned\u00a0and if you feel it necessary, for additional security, stay in your\u00a0hotel\u00a0room\u00a0while it is being\u00a0cleaned.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re in any way concerned ask to be moved to another\u00a0room.\u00a0<\/p>\n Another risk is carrying around your card holder and we\u2019ve all done this.
