Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise enthusiasts are about to get hit with yet another fee, and they couldn’t be less thrilled about the prospect.

Since 2019, the price of everything has gone up thanks to global inflation, and cruise prices are no different.

But while cruises have control over the prices of many things — such as Wi-Fi access and shore excursion prices — they don’t have control over the increase of things like taxes.

And now, both cruise lines have announced that those increases will be passed on to customers.

For example, Quintana Roo in Mexico has announced that they will impose a $5 tax on all cruise ship passengers.

Rather than absorb the cost themselves, both cruise lines have announced that they will pass that tax on to its guests.

While that tax isn’t due to be added until 2025, passengers are already furious that they’ll be incurring an additional charge on an already-expensive excursion.

Mexican authorities, however, claim that the taxes will be “earmarked for tourism infrastructure projects and natural disaster recovery,” per Cruise Hive.
