One visitor to a small UK seaside town has declared it a “hidden gem” saying it is “ridiculously beautiful”.

Aberaeron in Wales’s Ceredigion region features twinkling lights strewn from pillars on the town’s seafront and pretty multicoloured houses all overlooked by its imposing church.

Joanne Ridout, who visited the town for WalesOnline, said she loved the town’s “bracing” sea breeze adding that the town had none of the car noises and sirens associated with its busier counterparts.

The town is heaven for food fanatics and is home to award-winning restaurants including The Harbourmasters and The Stubborn Duckling alongside artisan bakers such as Watson and Pratts.

Ms Ridout decided to dine at The Harbourmasters and described it as “exceptionally tasty, easily matching any fine dining”.

The travel writer also gave rave reviews to the town’s The Hive and Bwyty McCowans cafes, as well as its welcoming pubs including The Black Lion and the Castle Hotel.

She stayed at the Moo-tel in the town’s Moody Cow farm where Ms Ridout enjoyed a “comfortable night’s sleep” and a “filling” full English breakfast.

Residents were said to be “friendly and welcoming” but also “painfully shy” as the reporter struggled to get interviews for a Facebook Live she was doing.

She said the town’s beach walkways offered a “full range of the sights, sounds and smells of the coast”, but said the area’s parking situation was a “nightmare” in the summer months.
