Travel + Leisure Co. and Sports Hospitality Ventures (a licensee of the Sports Illustrated magazine brand) are teaming up to launch Sports Illustrated Resorts.
The sports-themed resorts will be located within college towns and “near universities with devoted fan bases.” Each Sports Illustrated resort will feature a full-service hotel, a vacation club and residential condos.
The brand also plans to branch out into other segments, including beach clubs and interactive “experience parks” in leisure destinations.
The first Sports Illustrated complex is expected to open near the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 2025. In addition to the hotel, vacation club and residences, that property will have an SI Fit Health/Wellness Center and various dining and entertainment venues.
The new concept builds on an existing Sports Illustrated resort, the Sports Illustrated Resorts Marina & Villas Cap Cana, which opened in the Dominican Republic last year.
Sports Hospitality Ventures holds the license for Sports Illustrated hotels and resorts throughout North America and the Caribbean.
Travel + Leisure Co. was formed in 2021 when timeshare company Wyndham Destinations, which spun off from Wyndham Hotels and Resorts in 2018, acquired the Travel + Leisure media brand from Meredith Corp. Following the deal, Wyndham Destinations changed its name to Travel + Leisure Co.
